About me
I'm Ademola, a developmental editor, copy editor, and technical writer. My path into editing wasn't a straight line. I started in newsrooms, editing copy on deadline where there was no room for a sentence that didn't earn its place. From there I moved into technical writing, where the entire job is taking something complicated and making it make sense to someone who's never seen it before.
Somewhere along the way, manuscripts pulled me in. Fiction and nonfiction both, for the same reason. I like figuring out what a piece of writing is actually trying to do, then helping the writer get there.
That mix sounds unusual on paper, but it's really one skill applied in different rooms. News taught me to cut what doesn't matter. Technical writing taught me that clarity isn't optional. Editing manuscripts taught me that structure is often the real problem, even when a writer thinks it's the prose.
What I bring to a project
I don't work in just one lane, and I think that's an advantage for you. If your novel needs developmental work, I can find the structural cracks hiding under decent sentences. If your nonfiction manuscript has an argument that sounds confident but doesn't hold together, I can help you fix that. If you're past all of that and just need a careful, thorough copy edit, I can do that too.
I'm drawn to character-driven fiction and nonfiction with something real to say, but I don't limit myself to a narrow genre list. Good writing has the same needs no matter what shelf it sits on. Clarity, structure, and an editor who actually understands what you're building.
How I work
I lead with honesty, not encouragement for its own sake. If something in your manuscript isn't working, I'll say so directly and explain why. Then I'll give you a clear way to fix it, not just a list of what's wrong.
I don't give feedback to prove I read closely. Every note is meant to move your manuscript toward what you're trying to build, not toward what I might have written instead. You know your story better than I do. My job is helping you tell it well.
I also know editing can sting, especially on work you've spent months or years on. I keep that in mind in every note I write. Feedback should always feel like it's helping you, never judging you.

Developmental Editing
After a close read of your manuscript, you'll get detailed margin notes, light in-line suggestions, and an editorial letter pulling everything together. I work like a creative problem solver. I ask questions, flag what isn't working, and give you a clear path for revision.
Copy Editing
Once your story and structure are where you want them, copy editing is the pass that gets your sentences ready for readers. I work line by line, fixing grammar, punctuation, consistency, and clarity issues without changing your voice.
